Marketing Overload

Who would have thought that owning a photography business would mean spending more time and energy on business aspects than on photography itself. Now that my website is up and going which I am convinced is the most important item when marketing one's business, I am starting to think of marketing more seriously. I have a new logo now but it needs to be added to business cards (which have been ordered), CD/DVD labels, mailing labels, contracts, price lists etc. etc. I have to figure out what album design company (most of them are in the states) that I will order from. There are so many options out there. Do I go with Finao or KISS? What other marketing materials and photo packaging products do I go with? Where should I advertise my services?

However, I do have some tricks up my sleeve but those shall remain a secret.

I am open to any suggestions that you may have.

This coming weekend

The next couple weeks are going to be hectic for me, especially with preparing for my upcoming trip to Mexico for my friend's wedding. I still have to wash the new wardrobe I have purchased specifically for the trip and pack everything along with my husband's stuff as well. But what I am most excited for (besides the trip itself) is taking a travel photography seminar this Sunday and then applying the skilss I have learned when I am in Mexico.

I also look forward to not only being my friend's maid of honour but her part-time wedding photographer. Unfortunately, I won't be able to photography the ceremony but I plan on photographing the bride's preparations, some formals of the couple between the ceremony and reception, the reception itself and possibly a trash the dress session with a twist.

Stay tuned for those photos in a few weeks.

New to Blogging

My name is Amanda Morrison-Hill and I created this blog to promote my home-based photography business. For as long as I can remember, I have always been the person within my group of friends and my family to have a camera with them and ready to shoot, which is why when I decided that I no longer wanted to be a legal assistant, which has been my career for the last 5 years, photography was the logical and obvious choice for me.

Since I made that choice, I have not looked back once. I started taking nightschool and weekend courses at George Brown College in Toronto and have loved every second of it.

Because I am new to photography, I am trying to dabble in every area of it. I have experience shooting boudoir, family portraits, engagement photos and weddings. On a personal level, I love landscape and travel photography and taking photos of my family, especially my four month old son, Braeden.

I am always looking for reasons to get my camera out and start shooting, so now instead of waiting for opportunities I am making my own. I am very excited about an upcoming Spring (2009) studio shoot in downtown Toronto.
